Goffstown Seeks Residents’ Input on “Manchester, NH 03102” Mailing Address

Public awareness campaign and March 13, 2012 referendum article asks if there should be one “Goffstown NH 03045”address for everyone in Goffstown with exception of St. Anselm College.

For years Goffstown officials have heard from Pinardville residents about the confusion caused by their “Manchester, NH 03102” mailing addresses. The town is recruiting those residents to work on a public awareness campaign about the problems experienced. Also, there will be a referendum article at the March 13, 2012 Town Meeting asking all residents if there should be one mailing address “Goffstown, NH 03045” for everyone in Goffstown with the exception of St. Anselm College.

Officials have heard from many Goffstown residents about wrong deliveries and the difficulties residents experienced pursuing those deliveries that ranged from Christmas presents to roofing materials. They have heard about lawn treatments provided when the treatment should been delivered to a Manchester residence and concern about potential impact to a shallow dug well. Residents have complained about “911” calls dispatched to the City of Manchester rather than to Goffstown and the time waiting to be redirected to Goffstown; when responding to an emergency every minute counts. Others have told stories of paying higher auto and homeowner insurance premiums because their “Manchester NH 03102” mailing address is mistaken as a Manchester residence. Another resident relayed his experience with remortgaging his home; the percentage which could be refinanced was different for Manchester homes than Goffstown homes and he had to submit proof he was a Goffstown resident due to his mailing address.

Goffstown residents with “Manchester, NH 03102” addresses have submitted to the town copies of motor vehicle renewal notices sent to them by the City of Manchester. How much revenue has the town lost to the City as a result of these incorrect renewal notices? During recent franchise negotiations with the cable company, it became evident that the cable revenue from about 187 Goffstown households has been sent to the City of Manchester; revenue that would have offset Goffstown’s property taxes.

Residents living in Goffstown with a “Manchester NH 03102” mailing address will be receiving a letter from the town recruiting them to work on a public awareness campaign about the problems experienced. In addition there will be a referendum article asking residents if there should be one mailing address “Goffstown NH 03045” for everyone in Goffstown with the exception of St. Anselm College. The town hopes residents will answer affirmatively so their neighbors can solve the problems they have described, and the town can receive the revenue which rightfully belongs to Goffstown.
