Trail Building Volunteer Opportunity 10/7/18

Volunteer Opportunity - Trail Building 10/7/18

The Goffstown Conservation Commission and Piscataquog Land Conservancy will be holding a trail building work day on Sunday, October 7th at the Black Brook Preserve in Goffstown. If you have questions or plan to attend, please email David Nieman of the Conservation Commission at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

From David:

"Our local land trust, the Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC), has done so much to help Goffstown protect important conservation lands.  On Sunday, October 7, the PLC and the Conservation Commission are holding a trail building work day to complete the final trail work at the Black Brook Preserve off Montelona Road in Goffstown.  This is in preparation for an opening ceremony on Saturday, October 27, making this beautiful property accessible to the public.

No previous experience is required.  We will be posting markers for the hiking trails, trimming branches along the trails, and where necessary doing some ground work to improve a surface condition or create a diversion to direct traffic along the trail routes.

If you can attend, please send me a response so we can plan accordingly.  Also please forward this message to anyone you think would be interested in helping.

Starting time will be 9:00 AM.  Make sure you bring work gloves and drinking water - there is no potable water on the site.  We will have some tools, but for those who have any of the following items, it would help if you can bring your own to make sure we are fully equipped:

- small hammer for posting trail markers

- handheld pruners, or loppers

- rakes (to define foot corridors in certain locations)

- we are looking for a machete to attack a patch of invasive bittersweet

The entrance to Black Brook Preserve is on the class 6 Shanty Road, located on Montelona Road, less than a 1/4 mile west of Fieldstone Drive.  A sign will be posted at the entrance to Shanty Road.

Looking forward to a beautiful October day in the woods!
