Re: SAFER Grant Award Notification
Date: 9/6/2019 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GOFFSTOWN – Chief Brian H. Allard of the Goffstown New Hampshire Fire Department is pleased to announce they have received notification from FEMA that the Town of Goffstown has been award a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. This grant will allow the Goffstown Fire Department to increase its level of service to the community by hiring four additional fulltime firefighters.
Chief Allard would like to thank the Select Board, the Goffstown Budget Committee, and ultimately the Goffstown voters for supporting Warrant Article 12 on the 2019 ballot. According to Chief Allard, “This grant will allow the Fire Department to provide a higher level of care to the community and assist with improving emergency response times.” Select Board Chairman Peter Georgantas stated, “It’s great to know that our fire department is moving forward in the right direction for our community.”
Warrant Article 12 was approved at Town Meeting on March 2019. Article appropriated just over 1 million dollars for the grant period of 2019-2022. Of that 1 million dollars, the federal share covered by the SAFER grant exceeds $650,000.
Chief Allard will be requesting the Select Board’s approval to accept the SAFER grant at the September 9th Select Board Meeting.
